    Calling all CFUW Burlington members and friends.  Join Paddy Torsney as she presents her 27th Annual International Women's Day breakfast in PERSON on 27 February 2023 at 7:30am at the Holiday Inn Burlington. 

    The speaker this year will be Burlington's own Rebecca Bender. An acclaimed author and illustrator of books for children.

     Tickets are for sale at a Different Drummer Bookstore at the corner of Locust and Caroline Streets in Burlington.  Holiday Inn has agreed to hold the price at $20 per person for a hot breakfast. 

    If you are picking up tickets, please have cash only for Ian and his kind team. 

    New this year, you can use Eventbrite to buy your ticket, but note there is a fee to do this.

    HSO released its study on Long-Term Care Services at the end of January.  Please go to the following link to find the study.https://longtermcarestandards.ca/

    CFUW Long Term care and Elder Right Study will examine this document at its meeting February 9.  Please refer to the previous Blog Post - National CFUW Club Action Newsletter for access to this meeting.

    Doreen GentlemanIt is with sadness that we announce the passing of a cherished member and a dear friend to many, Doreen Gentleman.  Doreen was a Charter Member of CFUW Burlington, having been a member for more than 50 years.  Our condolences go out to her family and friends.

    The Creative Crafting Interest Group has chosen to support Food4Kids this festive season, and is busily knitting, crocheting and sewing items such as hand warmers and hats to help fill backpacks with gifts for children. They have also received donations from other CFUW members and friends.

    One of the CFUW National Resolutions this year was Strengthening Bail Laws to Protect Victims of Intimate Partner Violence, proposed by University Women’s Club of North York.

    CFUW Orillia, with support of their Member of Parliament for Simcoe North, Adam Chambers, has created an online petition urging the Federal Government to take the actions suggested in the Resolution. Once we have garnered 500 signatures, Adam Chambers will present the petition results in the House of Commons.

    Please consider signing the petition as soon as possible. The petition will be closed on December 7th

    The Burlington Ubuntu Grandwomen extend an invitation to you and your family and friends to join:

    Orange the World Vigil

    Monday, December 5th at  5:00pm

    in front of Burlington City Hall on Brant Street

    This Vigil is part of a UN Campaign: Orange the World: End Violence Against Women and Girls. The campaign runs from November 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10th, Human Rights Day. The colour orange is the symbolic colour of hope chosen by the United Nations for this global campaign, which was initiated in 1991.

    Andrea Battista and her very talented friends are presenting the Gratitude Project, a program of music and poetry inspired by and dedicated to gratitude. It will be held at Holy Rosary Church. No tickets will be sold but there will be a Free Will Offering. Last year’s presentation at Port Nelson UC was excellent. Enjoy this again or see it for the first time. Sunday, Nov 13 at 7:30 pm.
