One of the CFUW National Resolutions this year was Strengthening Bail Laws to Protect Victims of Intimate Partner Violence, proposed by University Women’s Club of North York.

CFUW Orillia, with support of their Member of Parliament for Simcoe North, Adam Chambers, has created an online petition urging the Federal Government to take the actions suggested in the Resolution. Once we have garnered 500 signatures, Adam Chambers will present the petition results in the House of Commons.

Please consider signing the petition as soon as possible. The petition will be closed on December 7th

Calling all knitters, crocheters, and sewers! The Creative Crafters Group is Looking for Helpers who are willing to knit, crochet, or sew items for the Kids4Life fill a backpack program.

    Dear CFUW Members,

If you knit, crochet, or sew please consider helping with the CFUW Crafty Crafters’ local fundraising project this year.

The Creative Crafters Group is working with Food4Kids and will be contributing hand made items to be packed into backpacks for Children at Christmas.

Over the summer, many members in the group got a head start with this project and began knitting or crocheting hand warmers or hats for children.  Some are sewing items as well.  The Food 4Kids group can use as many items as possible.  Members of the group have reached out to friends outside our Club as well, and have received a positive response.

We just found out that much of the packing of the backpacks begins October 1.  However, they have indicated that we can contribute as late as December 1.  These timelines give the group a very short time in which to contribute items that take awhile to make.  We want to make a significant contribution, which is why we are reaching out to everyone in the club.

If you can contribute some items, please email Irene Hayworth or Sue Noble.  We have very easy patterns for knitting hand warmers that we will happily share!

Any questions can be directed to Sue or Irene as well.

We hope you will consider contributing to this very worthy program.

    Regards,

    Irene & Sue

The Oakville Chamber Orchestra will hold a concert Sunday, October 16th which features a suite by Amice Calverley.  Born in 1896, Calverley is a female composer of that time whose works received little or no recognition.  There is much to learn about this Oakville resident who had exceedingly rare abilities:  Egyptologist, nurse, pilot, artist, polymath, composer.
