Heathy Living and Healthy Eating – An Introduction to Dragonboat

Hi,

What: An Introduction to Dragon Boat
When: Wednesday May 20, 10:30 AM
Where: Royal Hamilton Yacht Club
             555 Bay St N, Hamilton

We will meet in the west end of the parking lot near our boat dock where we will distribute paddles and pfds (personal floating device). If you have your own, you’re welcome to bring it.

CFUW members will be given an introduction to the sport of dragon boat. Lead by our Coach Kathy Levy, we’ll demonstrate the basic stroke, explain a bit about the positions in the boat, and talk about water safety.
After an onshore warm-up, we will load the boat and go out on the bay, weather permitting. If it is deemed to be too windy, we’ll stay inside the break wall. We should be out for about an hour.
After our return to shore and a quick cooldown, everyone is welcome to join us for lunch at the RHYC.
Wear tights or light weight pants (not jeans or heavy pants ). Wear layers on top so you can strip down if you get too warm. Depending on the weather, you might want to add a light jacket that you can move in easily. Wear an old pair of sneakers or other rubber sole shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. If you have a pair of water shoes, they work too, The seats of the boat are hard so you may want to bring a “butt pad”…. a garden kneeling pad from the dollar store. Don’t forget sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle.
We would like to know numbers by May 13, at the latest, so we know how many paddles and pfds we need. Please indicate if you will be joining us for lunch so we can alert the folks at the Yacht Club.
