On the 3rd Sunday of Advent, the candle of Joy flickered its light. With symbolic candles glowing in homes, synagogues, mosques and churches, we share in deep mourning after hearing of the murder of at least 15 Jewish people on Bondi Beach, Australia. A Syrian Muslim showed courage as he tackled one of the shooters. We may find hope as we, in solidarity, are communities of different faiths that will not let hatred and violence win. - [Nature Walk and Talk](https://cfuwburlington.ca/nature-walk-and-talk/): Come and enjoy outdoor exercise in the company of friends! The Nature Walk and Talk group meets twice a month on a weekday morning, September to June. We usually meet at the destination and walk for 1 – 1.5 hr on mainly flat surfaces. Hiking boots and poles can sometimes be helpful as are cleats for boots in winter. At a meeting at the end of September, interested members begin to select the books. Other members can make suggestions. We are looking for good reads that most members will find interesting. Each member contributes around $30, depending on the cost of the books. She reads one of the 8 to 10 books, every month, depending on the number of members. She keeps the last book she receives. - [Afternoon Book Club](https://cfuwburlington.ca/afternoon-book-club/): There are three very stimulating book discussion groups: All the groups read a diverse and interesting assortment of books. They are similar in operation, though they meet at different times and are organized by different convenors. Generally, a list of nine books is chosen by the group members before the year’s meetings begin and the titles are for the most part current literature. The monthly book is reviewed by different members and interesting discussions follow. Ideas are freely shared, often including lively and friendly debate.
- [Theatre](https://cfuwburlington.ca/theatre/): This is a group of avid theatre goers! There are two play selection meetings: October and January. At the meetings playlists of the upcoming season are read and discussed. There are sign-up sheets for each play selected.     Members sign-up for plays of their choice, suggest a preferred date and indicate whether they are willing to drive. - [Resolution on Bail Law Reform to Protect Victims of IPV](https://cfuwburlington.ca/resolution-on-bail-law-reform-to-protect-victims-of-ipv/): One of the CFUW National Resolutions this year was Strengthening Bail Laws to Protect Victims of Intimate Partner Violence, proposed by University Women’s Club of North York. CFUW Orillia, with support of their Member of Parliament for Simcoe North, Adam Chambers, has created an online petition urging the Federal Government to take the actions suggested in the Resolution. Once we have garnered 500 signatures, Adam Chambers will present the petition results in the House of Commons. Please consider signing the petition as soon as possible. The petition will be closed on December 7th.

The campaign runs from November 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10th, Human Rights Day.
